All three Cafe-X cafes based in the San Francisco Bay area will be closing down announced the founder, Henry Hu on Twitter.
“Our three downtown SF locations helped us develop the newest machine that we launched recently at SJC and SFO,” wrote Hu on his Twitter account. “Thanks to our amazing customers, who supported us in SF over the last three years.”
While it was true the Robots sometimes malfunctioned – reports of throwing Latte’s around as they danced, but that doesn’t sound much different from some of the staff that work at our Cafe, and the prices for San Francisco were at the lower end.
If you haven’t seen their website, it’s worth checking out to get a feel of how innovative this idea was. While replacing baristas was controversial to some, others felt there was a place for both.
We briefly flirted with the idea of reaching out to Hu to see if we could get a robot cheap to put in the BarTalks kitchen.
