THAILAND COFFEE CHAIN INVESTS IN VIETNAM

Café Amazon, one of Thailands top coffee chains, is planning a big expansion in Vietnam after their 2020 pilot was seen as successful. The company apparently sees Vietnam as a country with great potential and is eying Ho Chi Minh City as an important market.

The company has an easily recognisable brand that seems to resonate with the Vietnamese and is likely to be a hit with tourists when travel restrictions start easing.

The company already has over 3,000 stores in 10 countries, so it obviously knows how to grow the brand, and Vietnam seems like a good bet to continue that expansion.

HCMC is one of the busiest metropolia that your correspondent has visited, and there are coffee shops, stalls and hideaways everywhere. We visited a number of successful stores that belong to a chain, and this is the vibrant market that Café Amazon wants to tap into.

The business made its first tentative step in the country at the end of 2020 when it opened its first outlet in the southern Ben Tre Province followed later by two more in Tien Giang and Tra Vinh Province.

Thailand’s Central Group owns 40 per cent of Café Amazon Vietnam, with 60% belonging to a fuel distributor – PTT Oil.
