ESPRESSOLAB OPENS LARGEST COFFEE EXPERIENCE CENTRE IN EUROPE

The Turkish coffee chain Espressolab recently opened its Espressolab Roastery in Istanbul, a combination of a coffee shop, roastery, workshop and bakery under one roof. The roastery is the company’s 100th branch in Turkey.

The €5 million ($4.9 million) facility offers a unique coffee experience as well as information about coffee, concerts, workshops and art events. It is expected to increase the company’s roasting capacity by 17% per month and achieve its long-term goal of opening 500 shops.

Since establishing its first branch in Istanbul’s Bilgi University in 2014, the company has so far opened 165 branches worldwide. With shops in Egypt, Germany, Jordan, Iraq, Morocco, Palestine, Portugal, Qatar, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, Espressolab plans to open 200 shops by the end of 2022.

The ‘Future Generation Coffee’ Movement

EspressoLab’s Future Generation Coffee movement aims to continue the production of high-quality coffee. With this initiative, the company wants to ensure quality coffee production and sustainable coffee preparation longevity. Under the slogan “We are Responsible Together”, Espressolab carries out activities with local producers and non-governmental organisations to raise awareness of sustainable coffee that “the producer can afford for himself and his environment, and to develop production projects for the future.”

Roasting their own coffee

Espressolab personally visits local farms in Tanzania, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Guatemala, Colombia, Brazil and Kenya, where they develop programmes to support local producers. They select the best beans from the farms and roast their coffee in-house, constantly updating roasting profiles with the help of world-renowned coffee expert Renato Correira. While some coffee chains offer coffees that have a shelf life of more than six months, if not a year, this is not the case with Espressolab. The coffees they serve to their guests are not stocked for long. For them, qualified coffee is synonymous with fresh coffee.

In this direction, our biggest goal is to reveal a value with the story of a coffee bean in all these processes, from the coffee bean to the cup, and to provide a sustainable and quality coffee experience in all processes from the farmer producing the bean to the barista preparing the coffee. At this point, Espressolab Roastery is a very significant project in terms of conveying our story that we want to tell with these purposes to more people.
