DUTERTE OFFICIALLY NAMES DAVAO CITY ‘CHOCOLATE CAPITAL’

The Philippines has been developing their cocoa market internally and for export. Over 78% of those exported beans reportedly come from the Davao region on the east coast of the country.

President Rodrigo Duterte last week signed R.A. 11547, recognising Davao’s position as the country’s top cacao producer. The President is quoted saying that this recognition was for:

Making the Philippines world-renowned and sought after by chocolate makers from the US, Japan, and Europe. – President Rodrigo Duterte

The purpose of the law was also designed to help spur rural development and put the Philippines firmly on the map as a producer of fine cacao.
