SPECIALTY COFFEE

FNC AND USAID JOIN FORCES TO PROMOTE SPECIALTY COFFEE

The Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC) and USAID have joined forces to market specialty coffee, invest in production and transport infrastructure and strengthen producer associations.

Working together, the FNC and USAID want to improve the conditions of coffee growers and help advance the peace process in Colombia.

The initiative was formalized by signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the FNC and Fintrac Colombia, the implementing partner in the country of USAID’s Producers to Market Alliance (PMA), a five-year programme that seeks to increase the competitiveness of rural producers so that they can respond to market opportunities.

The main objective of the agreement is to work together to enhance production, with an emphasis on specialty coffee.

The agreement is part of a strategy to align USAID programmes in Colombia and takes place within the framework of another MOU signed in September 2016 between the FNC and USAID, the objective of which was to promote rural development in a post-conflict Colombia.
