CUP OF EXCELLENCE EL SALVADOR 2020 WINNER

Roberto Samuel Ulloa Vilanova of Divina Providencia is the winner of the 2020 El Salvador Cup of Excellence (COE), with a natural anaerobic Pacamara coffee. This records the first time that processing style has topped the El Salvador competition in its 17-year history, scoring 90.31 out of 100.

Roberto Samuel Ulloa Vilanova stated that when there is a personal achievement reached, people must be humble enough and recognise that goals require teamwork as well as receiving crucial support from different parts.

Norelvia Angelica Elias de Diaz of La Bonita in Chalatenango won second place with a washed Pacamara coffee, scoring 89.91. Ever Leonel Diaz Perez of Mileydi in Chalatenango won third place with a washed Pacamara coffee, scoring 89.53.

The Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) declared 22 COE winning coffees and 11 National Winner coffees from this year’s competition. The winning coffees represent a total of five processes and eight varieties. Along with work in innovation, the ACE said that Salvadorian coffee producers and country organisers had come together as an industry more than ever this year to help each other during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The International stage of the competition took place at ACE Global Coffee Centers (GCCs) in Norway, the United States, Korea, Japan, and Australia.

Lloyd Thom, International Judge, and Green Coffee Buyer at Campos Coffee in Australia stated that El Salvador is a unique origin with an impressive variety of techniques and profiles. The country may be the smallest in Central America, but it’s depth and complexity defy its size.

Coffee producers now will wait for their creativity and work to pay off in the COE auction. The auction will be held on 30 July and National Winner auction from 27 July to 14 August.
