German company BEAR Mills & Tanks GmbH, a well-known supplier of machinery for cocoa processing, has signed a deal with a local Cameroonian investor to build a plant near Yaounde. The local company, FAPAM, will be the only locally-owned cocoa processing plant in Cameroon.
Berlin-based BEAR has long experience helping local investors in cocoa producing countries to start up processing plants. A number of locally-owned processors in Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana have a link to BEAR.
The new plant in Cameroon will have an initial annual capacity of 10,000 tonnes of cocoa liquor, which is expected to increase to 20,000 tonnes in a few years.
