The International Cocoa Organisation (ICCO) is set to host the 2022 International Symposium on Cocoa Research, in collaboration with the French Institution Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD).
The annual event will take place in Montpellier France, from December 5th to December 7th 2022, after the initial September date was postponed due to Covid 19.
Although some way off, early bird discounts of 20% are available until April 2022
The event aims to provide a forum for global cocoa experts to discuss and exchange on the latest innovations to accelerate development of the cocoa industry.
Previous events have seen attendees from all areas of the cocoa value chain, as well as the scientific community. The ISCR has established itself as a key event for anyone invested in the future of cocoa.
The theme for this year’s Symposium: “Innovations to Support Market Development and Promote the Sustainability of Cocoa Farming for Better Farmer Income”, reflects current conversations around the fair treatment of farmers in the cocoa world.
Sustainability is a hot topic in the cocoa sector at the moment, particularly on the heels of COP26, so the theme for this year’s ISCR should come as no surprise.
CIRAD in particular has been paving the way for change to sustainability practices, including signing the French Sustainable Cocoa Initiative, with participation from the Minister Delegate for Foreign Trade and Economic Attractiveness earlier this year.
Among the goals of this French Initiative, is to combat imports of unsustainable forest or agricultural products that drive deforestation.
We released an in-depth dive into the issues surrounding deforestation here.
The 2022 ISCR event will open with welcome speeches from Michel Arrion (Executive Director – ICCO), Elisabeth Claverie de Saint Martin (CEO – CIRAD), and the Minister of Agriculture, to name a few.
