EUROPEAN UNION-FUNDED COFFEE PROJECT GETTING UNDERWAY IN ETHIOPIA

A five-year project that is expected to help Ethiopian coffee farmers earn more for the coffee they grow has been launched.

The Ethiopian News Agency said the €15 million project funded by  the European Union involves farmers in a number or regions.

The Government of Ethiopia will provide support in kind and expertise for the implementation of the project.

Ethiopia’s Agriculture Minister Sani Redi said the aim of the project “is to help increase the price of Ethiopian coffee in the international market and strengthen the economy.”

He said the project would focus on improving productivity and quality, tackling diseases and supporting research.

European Union representative, Dominique Davoux said he hoped the project would “create jobs for many citizens.”
