THORNTONS CUSTOMERS ARE STRUGGLING TO BUY EASTER EGGS ONLINE

Thorntons customers were unable to buy Easter eggs online for days, as the chocolatier website closed intermittently due to a daily order limit. The British chocolate producer and retailer closes its website daily, once a daily quota on new orders has been reached.

This idea comes after Cadbury customers were placed in a digital queue when trying to buy Easter eggs on its website. Customers can access the Thorntons site every day at 9 am (the time the web store opens for orders). Some shoppers had a hard time purchasing their wanted goods before the e-commerce site shuts quickly due to a usually high increase in customer orders.

The sudden increase in orders is due to the lockdown measures, which only allow people to leave their houses for particular purposes. One of these exceptions is grocery shopping, so many citizens have turned to internet shopping as less risky of purchasing non-essential goods.

Also, Thorntons closed all of its 100 UK stores because of the COVID-19 pandemic, giving its shoppers no choice but to purchase their treats online. On social media, customers made complaints and claimed that the online store usually is closing within an hour of its opening. Other shoppers have said the website could not be accessed, even at the opening time.

On social media aired complaints about this issue, so Thorntons addressed the problem with the following online statement, “Due to high demand, we have for now paused taking new orders today.
“We hope you understand, and please re-visit at 9 am tomorrow when we will be back online taking orders on our full range-said from the company”.

A spokesperson from Thorntons told The Sun: ” Our demand is four times higher than average, this morning, we took 8,000 orders in the first hour of opening.” We are also taking additional precautions to keep our colleagues safe in this current environment. The situation includes paring back staffing levels to ensure social distancing is observed, and for that reason, we have briefly reduced the number of orders we are taking daily.

“We really hope our customers understand and would like to thank them for their ongoing support, as we remain focused on managing at best the constant evolution of this unpredictable situation.”
The bright side is that you can purchase Thornton’s goods at other supermarket outlets during your food shop, or on its websites.
