SCA COVID TRAINING — CAFE SAFETY

The SCA has released the latest video in their Science of COVID series. This one is a must watch, not just for businesses but anyone who visits a cafe or coffee shop.

Using a recent outbreak of COVID at a Starbucks in South Korea as a case study, the video explains that 56 customers become infected, but none of the staff tested positive.

What was the difference between the customers and the staff? The staff were always wearing face masks!

The presentor explains why they believe the infection spread to so many people, and lists the key lessons to take away from the incident as:

  • Masks are mandatory
  • Increase ventilation
  • Air purifiers are fantastic
  • Limit the exposure

We encourage you to watch the full video below. Some of the tips seem obvious, but others are less so.

For example, they believe the original customer who spread the infection sat under the air conditioning. The air blowing from the aircon likely carried droplets from his breathing to nearby tables.
