GOLDEN EGGS & ROTTEN EGGS. THE 2020 SUSTAINABILITY AWARDS.

Each year Green America publishes a scorecard of how chocolate companies fare in ethical and green practices. 21 companies are assessed and rated in an easy to understand ranking. The best is awarded the Golden Egg, and of course, the worst is given a Rotten Egg.

Green America states “ The Spring 2020 scorecard ranks and grades chocolate companies on key sustainability issues. Working together, the three organizations Mighty Earth, Green America, and Be Slavery Free developed a survey, sent it to all the companies chosen, and graded the companies. “

The Golden Egg this year was awarded to Tony’s Chocolonely for their efforts to reshape the industry. While the less coveted Rotten Egg was awarded to Godiva who managed to achieve the worst rating in every category bar one, which they scored the second-worst rating. Godiva was slammed for shirking their responsibilities for the conditions with which its chocolates are made, even though they continue to reap substantial profits off their chocolate.
