Precipitation data across the Cross River state in Nigeria show that this season has been a dry one – if compared to the long-term average. Over the last three months, cacao trees in these areas got consistently 60-70% of the usual rain totals. Precipitations came in peaks and trough cycles in the past three months but never left the plants exposed to hydric stress. In fact, despite the dry anomaly, the rainfall quantities were sufficient to cover the plants’ needs and ensure a smooth development of the crop.
