MCDONALDS REACHES SUSTAINABLE COFFEE MILESTONE

McDonald’s USA says 100 per cent of the coffee in its McCafé product served in restaurants in the US is now sustainably sourced.

The company hit the sustainability milestone one year ahead of schedule.

“In the US, we source coffee sustainably through McDonald’s McCafé Sustainability Improvement Platform or the Rainforest Alliance,” the company said.

McCafé SIP is a sustainability programme developed in partnership with Conservation International to protect the environment and support farmers.

“When developing this programme, we saw it as an opportunity to guide our supply chain in sustainable sourcing and invest in coffee farmers over the long term,” the company said. “McDonald’s achievement of sustainably sourcing 100 per cent of their coffee shows that sustainability can scale and it’s not just for niche or small businesses,” said Conservation International CEO, Dr M Sanjayan.
