FACE MASKS MANDATORY IN STARBUCKS

Starbucks will require customers to wear facial coverings or masks in all 9,000 of its company-owned American stores starting July 15.

The company said in a statement that the mandate is part of Starbucks’ “continued effort in prioritising the health and well-being” of its employees and customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Starbucks said customers who refuse to wear a mask inside could order from the drive-thru, curbside pickup, or delivery. Starbucks has made its employees wear a mask or facial covering since April due to broader changes it implemented to safeguard against the coronavirus pandemic.

The company also added that the company is committed to playing a constructive role in supporting health and government officials to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Although in the US there is no nationwide mandate to wear a mask, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that everyone should wear a cloth face cover when they have to go out in public.

The CDC noted that face coverings are meant to protect other people if the individual is unknowingly infected but does not have symptoms.

There has been widespread confusion over national policy in the US with the countries scientists and politicians frequently disagreeing. It seems that companies are making their own choices regardless of national guidance.
