LATEST STUDY FINDS-COFFEE MAY LOWER THE RISK FOR DEVELOPING ARRHYTHMIA

The latest study published by the Heart Rhythm Society found that one to two coffee cups daily can lower the risk of heart arrhythmia, or an irregular heartbeat.

Researchers looked at data on more than 350,000 participants in the U.K. Biobank. They collected information on about half a million people aged between 40 to 69 for a four-year timespan. Participants provided blood, urine, and saliva samples regularly, as well as details about their habits and medical histories.

Lead researcher Eunjeong Kim, M.D., a clinical fellow of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, stated that the central message of the study is that it doesn’t appear to be harmful to consume moderate coffee amounts for overall arrhythmia prevention. She also added that the best amount for lowering the risk seemed to be one to two cups, and five cups were when the risks started to level out.

Have in mind that the study is observational, and the results are correlative, which means researchers didn’t prove coffee causes better heart function. This study adds to others that showcase the potential benefits of caffeine and coffee.

Coffee can be possibly beneficial because it is rich in polyphenols, plant compounds full of antioxidants, which have been connected to better cell function in the heart and blood vessels. Knowing this, we can assume that coffee could prevent heart issues, too, such as heart disease and stroke.
