Black Pod risk in Sunwa (Ogun State, Nigeria)

Since the onset of the wet season in Sunwa (Ogun State, Nigeria), the temperature has been ideal for the development of the pathogen responsible for the black pod disease.

In addition to these ideal temperatures, this season has seen 30% more precipitation and almost 40% more rain days than average, leaving far less chances for the pods to dry.

Such conditions are favorable for the pathogen population that likely built up quicker than average. Despite the symptoms not being evident in the field yet, the part of Ogun state around Sunwa could experience a fast paced epidemic of black pod disease if it is left unchecked.
