CARGILL LAUNCHES CHOCOLATE MANUFACTURING OPERATION IN ASIA

Consumer demand for chocolate products expected to grow steadily in the Asian market. To meet this demand, Cargill is partnering with a local manufacturer in Western India, to start its first chocolate manufacturing operation in Asia.

The facility is expected to start operating mid-2021 and will produce 10,000 tons of chocolate compounds.

Francesca Kleemans, Managing Director at Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate Asia-Pacific, said that opening a chocolate manufacturing operation in India allows the company to increase its regional footprint and capabilities in Asia.

It will support the needs of local Indian customers as well as multinational customers in the region and support the local economy with the addition of 100 new manufacturing jobs.

Customers can tap into Cargill’s R&D network of food scientists and experts at Cargill’s contemporary regional innovation centres in Singapore, Shanghai, and India. They can collaboratively innovate with chocolate products that bring sensory experiences in terms of colours and flavours specific to regional and local tastes and consumption patterns.

Cargill stated that its customers should benefit from Cargill’s globally integrated cocoa and chocolate supply chain, risk management capabilities, and their food safety standards and approach to cocoa and chocolate production.

Cargill confirmed its cocoa presence in Asia in 1995 in Makassar, Indonesia, with a team selected to support trading and supply management of cocoa to Cargill processing plants in Europe and Brazil.
